Q&A: What I Do For a Living

Hello friends.

I want to start today by address a common question I get from many readers.

Question: "What do you do for a living?"

Answer:  I know I'm always saying how much I love my job but many of you probably have no idea what I really do.  I talk about presenting, teaching, business meetings, interviewing…etc.  Let me break it down for you.

My job title is Financial Education Coordinator for Members 1st Federal Credit Union.  What does that mean?  I work under the marketing department for a very large financial institution in Pennsylvania running our entire Financial Literacy Program.  Our company currently has 48 branches, 7 of them being in high schools.  Aside from having our services on school campus, we also provide the financial literacy curriculum for these schools, as well as dozens of others surrounding schools in our market areas.  I manage a committee of about 30 people who I train to present, I develop and write curriculum for the financial literacy programs, I do a lot of teaching in the schools myself, I work with schools to initiate financial literacy in their classrooms, and I also run our scholarship and award programs.  Basically, my job is awesome!  It's truly rewarding and I can honestly say I love every single day.

Another thing I do is develop webinars for our members on basic financial literacy topics.  You can check out my latest one here.

There you have it.  The guy in that video you may recognize from my blog.  Bryce is a coworker and good friend of mine.  He also serves on my committee.  We often have lunch together which completely counteracts everything I am telling him here in this.  Oh well.

So now that you know what I do for a living…….tell me what you do! Do you like your job?
I just heard on Oprah the other day that 80% of Americans who stated they loved their jobs worked with people more than 7 hours a day.  I agree, I need to be surrounded by people in order to be happy at work.  I would go crazy in a little confined cube talking to no one all day.

Okay so breakfast was celebrated with Waffle Friday but a day early.

Banana Split Waffles

2 Kashi Blueberry Waffles, Strawberry Banana Chobani, Banana, Strawberries, Blueberries, Dark Chocolate AB, Granola

When breakfast tastes like dessert, you know it's going to be a good day.

My schedule was a bit up in the air again today because schools were still on a delay due to snow.  I had one meeting to run to and then headed home quick to eat lunch since my meeting was right down the road from home.

I just found this at the Health Food Store and was interested.
Sparking Green Tea.  It tasted delicious.  Like a fruity seltzer.  I couldn't really taste the green tea though.

For lunch, I heated up a can of Amy's Vegetable Barley Soup and added spinach.

Along with a side of garlic toast.

I notice that whenever I am home to eat, I put everything out in one sitting where as when I am at work, I tend to space everything out.  This was a bit much.  I couldn't finish the carrots or grapes so I took them with me to eat later.

For dinner tonight, I came up with this idea while I was running at the gym.  (Yes, I think of food when working out.  Don't tell me you don't. ;)

Smoked Salmon Fig and Goat Cheese Panini

I used TJ's Cibatta Bread, Dijon, Fig and Walnut Preserves, Spinach, Smoke Salmon and Goat Cheese to create this beautiful beautiful thing.

To go with my panini, there was roasted parmesan broccoli and some more grapes.

For Toly, I made a BBQ Pulled Chicken and Bacon Panini. The way to make your husband fall in love with you all over again is to make him this.

Something to check out:

I fell in love with this singer on Ellen today.  How have I not heard of him before?

  1. Your job sounds like a lot of work! You mus never get bored! I love my job - I am constantly around people and laughing.

  2. I think your job sounds really cool! And I think its awesome that you're educating the young about the importance of finances. I have two jobs. I work as a financial/cost analyst and a group fitness instructor. Your dinner panini is gorgeous. Such a great, easy weeknight dinner. Hooray for almost Friday!

  3. Fig on a sandwich sounds amazing! I had some on pizza not too long ago and LOVED it.

Your job sounds really fun. I was a teacher for 7 years, but now I'm a stay-at-home mama. :-)

  4. Oh dear..what DO I do for a living? I don't even know...

I LOVED that man on Ellen today! I want him to sing at my wedding too...except I think I am way too obsessed with Ellen already (that might be going too far).

  5. Your job sounds really interesting. I'm a teacher, so I love how it's different every day. :)

  6. I LOVE Joshua Radin, he is one of my favorites. My sister introduced him to me a few years ago and we saw him live when I was visiting her. Her and her hubby danced to "Lovely" for their wedding song. I recommend downloading his albums and listening to them on repeat for months and least that's what I did!

  7. I love my job too! I'm a hotel concierge in downtown Boston and I love the fact that I meet different people every day and get to tell them all about what's going on in the city. I get to go on tours and try out different restaurants. And vendors LOVE us! ;-)

  8. Yes...he is amazing! I am glad you shared the video with us. And I was also glad to hear what you did for a living! I had formed a vague idea in my mind, but it was great to get the details. I'm sure you are wonderful at what you do! I love my job too. I teach at Texas State University and I'm also a writer for the Department of Veteran affairs. I hope you have a wonderful Friday. I can't believe the weekend is almost here! Thank you for sharing, my friend. Many hugs from Austin!

  9. Your job sounds awesome! I had the same Steaz today too!! So good!!

  10. Your job sounds neat! It's really neat that you are teaching kids about being financially responsible. There were no programs like that when I was in high school but I sure could have benefited from something like that!

  11. Your job does sound amazing! Pre-stay at home mom, I was a legal assistant for a solo practitioner lawyer. Basically I did everything with/for him except go to Court. I did research, met with clients, disected medical records...and loved every single minute of it!

I quit that job when I had my 3rd child and I've been a stay at home for nearly 3 years now (3 years on Feb. 2) and it's hard to imagine doing anything else.

  12. I have been searching everywhere for some fig and walnut preserves! One day I WILL find them! LOL :)You cracked me up with your fashion comments on the last post. Whatever! It's totally acceptable to rock the stretchy pants and slippers. That's my favorite outfit. P.S. I started a new blog. Hope you'll check it out sometime! xoxo

  13. oOO your job sounds awesome!! So cool that you get to teach too!! My Mom is an M.D. and a professor so she teaches a lot of medical students and LOVES IT. Teaching definitely is super rewarding.

Love those eats as well! It has been way too long since I have had some smoked salmon! OOF

and waffles? Um, I'm coming over for breakfast next time!!

hugs to you Lauren, and thank you for your kind comments! you are such an amazing person.

  14. i love hearing about people with "real jobs" and that they love them! i LOVE what i do - acting - but i wouldn't say i make a decent living from it. then again, i'm blessed that it's all i do, b/c for many years i had to supplement it with jobs i hated.

  15. I think it's great that your job allows you to provide such useful information to young adults. I think the majority of bad spending habits are due to never being instructed on how to manage money in the beginning. Debit/credit cards make it all to easy to just swipe a card without a second thought!

I work in a hospital as a CAT scan technologist. I got my job straight out of college and have been working there for 3 1/2 years. It can be tough sometimes to work in a hospital surrounded by sick people all the time, but it is fulfilling to know that I am part of the process that helps these people to get better! I love the people that I work with and I think that makes all the difference!

Your panini looks incredible! I would have never thought to pair fig preserves with smoked salmon! I will definitely have to try that sometime! I love fig preserves!
