There Once Was a Time….

There once was a time when I lived a fully healthy and vibrant life.  Never broke a bone, never had an hospital visits, hardly ever was in the doctor's office. I attribute most of my health to the fact that I have treated my body well for most of my life.  I exercise regularly, I eat the right things, I am sure to get all of my nutrients, I don't drink, I don't smoke, and I get plenty of rest. So, essentially, I did everything right.

Well, guess what my friends….

Doing the "right" thing doesn't come with a 100% guarantee.

I feel like all you hear from me these days is how I am fighting one problem after another.  As unfortunate as that may be, I really do try to keep my spirits up, so if I at all seem miserable, please accept my apologies in advance.

So, what am I getting at with this drawn out introduction?

I'm SICK!  Surprise surprise, right?  Figures, the moment I start to finally feel better with one problem (the stomach issues) I get knocked down HARD with a full blown sinus infection.  Oh this thing has hit me hard- fever, chills, body aches, severe migranes…etc.  And since I am not able to take antibiotics, I'm just going to have to tough it out.

Fortunately, I am able to work from home today.  I went in this morning for a meeting and my boss took one look at me and sent me home.  I don't think she appreciated me spreading my infection throughout the close confines of our department wing.  Understandable. I had no problem with going home, putting on PJ's, heavily medicating myself and passing out.

So, I'm home today attempting to use my "natural" remedy approaches in healing. So far, it's included ample doses of Vitamin C and probiotics with the so called powers of some Amazing Grass.

My shot of wheat grass, spinach, blueberries and Kefir

If anyone has any ideas for cures, I would love to hear them.  I'm hoping a good day of rest and lots of liquids will do the trick.  We FINALLY have plans to go out this weekend (we have not been out in MONTHS) and come hell or high waters I WILL be having a much needed date night with my husband.

Even though my taste buds haven't been very alive, my appetite has been out of control.  Why is it that I get super hungry when I am sick?  I can't smell or taste anything, so it's not even enjoyable, but yet I am always hungry.  Oh well, food is always good, even if I can only taste about 50% of it.

Like last night's BFD…..

Breakfast Pizza

My side was sauce, spinach, eggs, red pepper, and goat cheese.  Toly had sauce, cheddar, bacon, eggs, and mozzarella.

Served with a fruit salad (Spinach, Red Cabbage, Cantaloupe, Strawberries, Blueberries, Grapes and Cinnamon Agave Almonds with feta)

(Pizza out of the oven)

My slice topped with diced avocado and lots of hot sauce

This pizza was delicious!  A nice change from our usual BFD menus.  I make pizza all the time and I make BFD every week, so why not combine these two wonderful things?   Why have I not done this before?  No idea.  But I'm glad I finally did because it was awesome.

Okay, off to rest before my afternoon conference call.

Be back later.

  2. I really sympathise with your ill health these days! It does seem really unfair that you do so much to live a healthy life and yet you're not really getting the benefits at the moment. I'm sure the problem is that you're immune system is struggling with the digestive problems you've been having and the other issues will improve once you manage to manage that side of things.
I haven't commented on here before, but as I'm here now I'd like to say how much I love your food photos (and probably the food itself by extension) - they look wonderful. I could totally eat that pizza right now (I must admit your side appeals to me more as I'm addicted to veggie pizzas, even though I'm not vegetarian) and the fruit salad looks beautiful as well. As Erica said, lots of rest, keeping warm, lots of fluids, maybe some mindless TV to take your mind off it...

  3. Aw, I'm so sorry to hear you're sick! Sleep is always my most trusted way of getting better. I knock myself out with Nyquil and snooze away! I think sickness often comes from exhaustion :( Sending positive vibes your way...and that pizza looks delicious!

  4. I'm sorry that you are not feeling well again, I can definitely sympathize with that since I was very ill last week and ended up at the emergency room :/ Plus I'm getting my tonsils removed tomorrow... I drank alot of Kefir/spinach/fruit smoothies last week (since I couldn't eat solid foods) and I think they definitely helped me to feel better faster. I hope you start making a quick recovery in time for date night! :)
