Better than Expected

The worst is over and I am now on the road to recovery. Thanks to everyone for continuing to shower me with your beautiful well wishes. And I also wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU and Hello to all of the new readers. Thanks so much for reading, it's always so nice to hear some new comments.

Surprisingly, I am doing much better than I ever expected. I guess I just went into it expecting the worst and hoping for the best. The pain is so much more manageable than I imagined (with the help of healthy dosages of strong pain meds) and the swelling is definitely not what I thought either. It's not pretty, but it's not horrific, so I would say that I got pretty darn lucky, or maybe just a doctor who actually knew what he was doing!

(I tried mask as much as I could to spare you from any of the nasty details. After all, this is a food blog too!)

Speaking of food, I have been extremely thrilled that I am able to eat!!! This was my biggest fear because I wasn't sure how bad it was going to be, but truthfully, it's so much better than it was last time. I'm sticking with soft foods but I'm amazed at how easy it has been and also at how much of an appetite I have had. I'm actually trying to keep something in my stomach constantly, because I find that if I take all of the meds on an empty stomach, I feel quite nauseous.

I have a fridge full of good soft eats, as everyone has been showering me with soups, applesauce and of course, my favorite KASHA!

Toly's parent's are actually in Mexico this week, but she felt so bad about not being able to make my Pumpkin Kasha that she called his aunt and asked her to make a big batch.

His aunt was so sweet to make it for me. I had it last night for dinner with steamed spinach, cranberry sauce and goat cheese. It was awesome!

I've also been hitting the oats pretty hard. My mom dropped off a few cans of Pumpkin that she had in her pantry after she heard about my shortage situation. Thank goodness, because pumpkin oats were all I wanted to eat this morning.

This bowl was Banana Pumpkin Oats with Pom Arils, Blackberries and Cran/Apple Butter.

There has also been plenty of ice cream....

And educational TV so that I can keep my mind fresh....

But the best part of all is the love and kindness I have been receiving from everyone.

More rest and more ice is in order.
And possibly a few episodes of Gossip Girl to keep me occupied. :)

  8. LAUREN!!!!!

I totally read your last post and had 3084032 things to say but I was in class when I read it haha. I totally support poppin' them pills for the pain. No reason to make this process any more painful than it has to be. Your body is in tip top condition and a couple pills won't even make any sort of dent or whatsoever.

Although it's rough now, I'm glad you are finally getting the prob fixed and soon enough you'll be crunching on carrots and nuts and jawbreakers :) Maybe not the last one.

Stay strong m'dear!! You look fabulous in that photo btw. I cannot even tell you had surgery YESTERDAY. Speedy recovery!!

  10. i'm so glad that recovery is going smoothly...if you need a good movie to watch, check out my film "saving face" which is on DVD...i'm a little biased, of course, but it's a nice, light story - perfect for while you're parked in front of the tv!

I am so glad you are feeling up to snuff (where does that expression come from??) and that you got some pumpkin, too. I am always SO jealous when you post that pumpkin kasha! You think your aunt would feel bad and make some for me, too? JK. Have a good day sweet pea! xoxo

  16. Aw I wish I could send you flowers!! Actually.. mwahaha ;) I've been thinking about you so much lately, and my mom is kind of going through the same thing right now. I think she got a cyst in her mouth from all the mouth treatments she's been going through and I think she may have surgery this weekend? I'm not sure. But anyway, before I forget to share these things with you! Since they don't have canned pumpkin over where you are, do they still sell the whole pumpkins? Because it's not hard to make a puree yourself :) Plus you get a lot more for your money! Another thing - you should try mashing banana and pear together = the bomb. I bet some cinnamon and honey would make it the ultimate fruit sauce. That's so nice that you have lots of love around you and plenty of kasha ;) I love you girlie!

p.s. I think I'm leaving VA right after exams :( I'll have to talk to my dad about it since he's helping me drive down.
