Remember when I told you that on Saturday, I felt terrible for the entire day. Well, turns out that the antibiotics I have been taking are to blame. You see, I am allergic to Penicillin so I was prescribed something different, but I guess it doesn't differ too much. I thought it was the Vicoden but after I stopped taking it and still had the side effects of nausea, heartburn, chills and extreme exhaustion, I knew something wasn't quite right. So today, I stopped to antibiotics and felt better, but the mouthwash they gave me also is an antibiotic and every time I use it, my tongue swells like a balloon and goes completely numb. I called the doc and he said "Yep, that's an allergic reaction all right. Stop using it!" Duh!!!! Oh, boy just when I thought it couldn't get worse. No wonder I am still blown up like an umpa lumpa.
I decided to take one more day off work tomorrow, to get everything out of my system and continue to take it easy. Not to mention, I look like I was hit in the face a few hundred times. (All swollen, bruised and sore = not a pretty face to show off to all new employees during tomorrow's orientation class)
So, I did feel better today (despite the reaction). The overnight oats were a big hit! I pulled out my mush in the morning and added some blueberries and a spoon of cherry jam, along with a splash more of almond milk.
They were soft, doughy and delicious. I really like this concept and shall be trying it more often.
I finally made Toly breakfast again. (Oh how I've missed cooking) He had an egg sammy and fresh fruit and he was delighted!
So after being cooped up in the house for 3 days, I couldn't take it one moment longer. I NEEDED TO GET OUT. I have never been more excited to go the grocery store in my life. I showered, threw on a hat, and headed to the store. Of course, I looked ridiculous, but I didn't care. I tried to keep my head down and go as fast as I could, but mid way through, I felt my tongue swell and some pain coming on, so I knew I needed to wrap it up and get home asap.
After I put everything away (Oh and took some more medicine of course) I got started on lunch. Since my attempt with the pita didn't work so well with the chewing yesterday, I thought a wrap might be a bit easier.
I made Crack Wraps- Mine has hummus, spinach and avocado.
Today had turkey, cheese and tomato.
I was able to painfully eat the entire thing but left some of the fruit. By the time I got through my wrap, my mouth hurt too bad to try to finish.
(That would be brown mustard on the side for dippage-both wrap and pickles! I love love love pickles and mustard!)
After lunch, I begged Toly to get out with me. I needed some fresh air and sunshine, so we headed over to City Island for a beautiful afternoon walk.
We walked along the river for a few miles...
And met this strange character....
Pretty cool statue- I've never noticed him before.
Sammy loved the walk. But we definitely tired him out. He is not a panting kind of pooch, but this little pup was hot and tired when we finished our hour long walk.
I was so determined to make a "real" dinner tonight. So I was thinking what would be the easiest to eat and fish came to mind.
Toly likes his with tomatoes, feta, and evoo.
After 15 min on the grill, open up these babies and a wonderful fish dinner awaits. The fish was amazing. I also made some grilled asparagus and a small caprice salad.
It was hard and painful, but I managed through the plate. My body has been lacking veggies and protein so this meal was entirely needed.
Well it's been one rough weekend. Thankfully, I think the worst is over and I am finally on the track to full recovery. I am going to attempt to run tomorrow (I can't take it anymore!) but plan to take it easy. We'll see how it goes...

I made Grilled Tilapia Packets.
I marinated the fish in lemon juice, fresh dill, parsley, and basil for a few hours.
I laid down a bed of spinach in the foil topped my fish with artichokes, olives, sun dried tomatoes, capers and goat cheese. Lastly, I drizzled some balsamic over everything and folded it up into a nice pocket for the grill.

So being that today is Father's Day, we both wanted to do a little something with our dads. The original plan was to have our parents over for a cookout, but considering the situation, we decided to take a rain check when I would be more up for entertaining. Instead, we asked if they wouldn't mind an ice-cream date instead. Both of our dad's wouldn't turn down some Italian Ice, so we met up at Ritas for dessert.
You know what, I'm not even a big fan of Italian Ice, but I can't explain to you how good it feels at the end of night. It so cool and numbing on my achy, swollen cheeks. I think in the past few days, I've eaten my fair share of italian ice.

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!
I was just thinking about you today, and hoping things were getting better! I'm glad you figured out you were having a reaction to the antibiotics! Hopefully an extra day of rest and laying off those drugs will get you back to normal asap! And praise God for Italian ice. It's the little things to be thankful for. :)
ReplyDeleteYou know what would probably be easy on you? Amy's Kitchen soups. They have some with lentils and beans for more protein.
ReplyDeleteI know spaghetti-O's pasta in there is super soft. Perhaps you can steal NASA's space food. I just imagine them having everything in a toothpaste tube.
I hope you're feeling better today. Just remember to allow your body to recover :) Take care, Lauren!
Oh yeah, eating Ritas is brilliant!!! I didn't think of that. Mmm...their mango is so good.
ReplyDeleteWow, so crazy about the allergy! So glad they figured that out for you.
