Welcome Home

After two long days, one jam-packed POD, and now an empty house, we are DONE!

It was tiring, but we did it.  I think the worst part about it all was knowing that in just a few months, we have to do this all over again! :)

But for now, we'll just lay back and enjoy our little staycation at my parents.

Okay, let's back up….

THE MOVE

I couldn't really sleep on Friday night.  I tossed and turned and eventually was up at 6:30am.  I waited for the sun to come out and then headed out on what would be my last run on my normal route.  I really wanted to feel all warm and fuzzy about this run, but the bitter cold temps only made me want to curl up into a ball and weep.  GOSH IT WAS COLD!!!  I even remembered gloves but my hands were stinging they were so numb.  I could only go 3 miles before I had to stop.

Hot Oatmeal was all I could think of.

Banana Whipped Oats with Egg White
Toppings: Berries, Vanilla Yogurt, White Choc. PB, Granola

Right after breakfast, Toly and I got to work packing up the last of things until the POD came.

To everyone who recommended the POD, THANK YOU!  These are definitely the way to go, especially if you are in our situation and need to store your entire life for a few months while your home is being built.

It was surprisingly more spacious than I imagined.

But we managed to fill every single crevasse without an inch to spare.

And what we couldn't fit went to Toly's parent's house to store.  I think they're hoping we forget about our Weber. :)

It was a llllooooonnnnnggg day, but thanks to the wonderful help of our families, we left our home bare.

Goodbye first home, we'll miss you and the 3 wonderful years you gave us.

I didn't sleep well again last night.  I think I was almost too tired to get a good nights rest and just feeling pretty overwhelmed.  It's weird being back in my childhood house in my old room.  It felt even more odd to have a boy in my bed with me. ;)  Toly and I joked that it feels like when we were dating again in high school, only now we get to go to bed together.

We woke up today with another full day ahead of us.  Before the work began, we decided to go out for breakfast at a local diner down the road from my parents which I haven't been to in years.

I ordered the special, Pumpkin Walnut Pancakes.

And a side of fruit.

Toly got his favorite, Knot Hole Eggs.

We spent the morning cleaning the old house and finishing up any last minute packing.  Afterwards, I headed to my parents home to finish unpacking our things and trying to make some kind of order of our lives.  It's going to be an adjustment for the next few months, but my parents are seriously great and make us feel right at home. We are actually very lucky.

My mom even baked me her famous Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies, my favorite!

Now if I can just convince her to do my laundry I don't think I'll want to leave.

Since most of the family as already here, we decided to have a family dinner to celebrate the move.  My sister, brother-in law and my little angel Weston came over to complete the "family" part.

We took care of the "dinner" part by ordering pizza.  I also made a salad (apple, walnut, cherry) to go with.

The rest of the night was spent swooning over the little love child of the family.

Gosh I missed him.  It had been over 2 weeks since I saw him last and I swear he grew so much.

For dessert, I put together a Sundae Bar!

I had a small scoop of Peanut Butter Swirl, with lots of fun toppings.  Sundae Bars are truly a wonderful experience.

It was such a nice relaxing night, which is just what we needed. I feel like life has been too crazy these past few weeks and I was feeling guilty about not being able to see my family.  Now, everything is settled and it should be a low-key couple of months.  I'm definitely looking forward to catching up on family time, some weekend trips, and seeing my nephew more.

PS- Doesn't my sister look fantastic??? She just had a baby a month ago!

I never really imagined moving back into my parents house, but now that I'm here, it doesn't feel as different as I thought.  My old room has seriously gone untouched, I know where everything is and I don't have to worry about cleaning the house every single weekend.

As I put my clothes back into the same dresser I once took them all out, I realized this part of our lives is just another magnificent adventure that will lead us to the next chapter.

In the words of my dad, who has opened us with the warmest and most welcome arms, "Welcome home, it's good to have you back."

  6. Congrats on the move! I have a question. Now that you are moved back home, will you be cooking dinners for everyone or will your parents? I was interested because I know you had mentioned you have stomach problems so I was curious on how you would adjust to different meals!

  11. I moved back home after 4 years away at college, and although it's an adjustment to not be on your own anymore, the perks of being with family are great:)
