Ask Not What Your World Can Do For You

"Don't ask what the world needs.  Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.  Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." ~ Howard Thurman

Today, I attended a fantastic conference on the significance of business partnerships in education and the  value of work force development has on students and young adults.  This topic strikes a distinct passion for me because, one, it's basically what I promote every single day of my life through my position and two, because I am the product of a career development student who had the most incredible opportunity handed to me, I took it, and it led me to this invaluable career that I truly love.

So the point to this all is not to preach to you on the benefits of business partnerships and networking in today's society, (I do that way too often on a daily basis) it is to point out one statement that I heard today that really hit home.  Students (People) today have to stop asking the question, "what can you do for me", and start asking, "what do I have to offer?"

This bold statement made me think of my own personal achievements and how I reached the points in my life that define who I am.  Sometimes, I get so caught up into the mindset of wanting more, not ever feeling like its enough and expecting the most out of others.  It's true, we hold other people to high standards, but I think the level of expectation we place on ourselves is far greater than that merit we could ever label on another.

We need to stop expecting and start doing.  Stop expecting the world to give you what you deserve and start to give the world what it deserves by being you.  "The world needs more people who have come alive."

Feeling quite alive after this conference!

I began the day with a fantastic bowl of "cereal."

1/4 Cup Nature's Path Crunchy Vanilla Sunrise, 1/4 Cup TJ's Berry O's, Berries, Pomegranate Arils, Chobani Pom, Coconut Butter, Galaxy Granola

I have been wanting to try this cereal by Nature's Path for quite awhile.  I heard very good reviews and I have yet to try a Nature's Path cereal that I don't absolutely love.

This cereal is FANTASTIC!  Honestly, an instant favorite. Comprised of an organic blend of corn, rice, flax, quinoa, buckwheat, and amaranth with a distinct sweet crunch.  I loved all of the textures and different flavors in the mixture of this.

The conference today lasted for the entire morning and included a lunch; however, I had to run out early to get to our closing for the townhouse we sold.

It was one of those days where I was running from one thing to the next, so lunch was boring but portable.  A gigantic Honeycrisp Apple, Cliff Bar, and some carrots.  Not the best value (content wise) but it did the trick for the time being.

The closing went well and then I was back to work to finish up the day.

When I got home from the gym, I was famished and so ready to eat.

Salad made by Mom

I tried this new frozen meal by Moo Moo's.

These meals always look pretty good but they are usually pretty expensive.  This happened to be on sale so I decided it was a good time to try.

I did have a pretty display of the burrito on top of a bed a spinach, with equal portions of salsa, greek yogurt and sprinkled with avocado and accented with a few tortilla chips on the side. But apparently, my tummy couldn't wait and I started to chow down before I remembered to take a picture. So here is the "mess" version after I already dug in.

One beautiful Mexican Mess!

Well I can't believe tomorrow is Friday.  And a GOOD Friday it will be.  Tomorrow, we settle on the new house!!!!!!  HUGE sigh of relief.  It's been quite a journey to get to this point.  I swear the actual building part is not going to be so bad, it is the paperwork, legal junk, and everything in between that is the worst. From here, it's all up!

Goodnight!

  1. Congrats on the settlement! That is so exciting :) Sounds like quite the busy day!! Beautiful cereal/yog mess. I'm thinking of having one tomorrow morning- with lots of blackberries :). I agree - strength training is super important! We all need a good balance of strength training, cardio, and stretching/flexibility training. I've never heard of Moo Moos, but that burrito mess looks delicious. Have a great Friday

  8. Such a great topic!! I think I'll phrase it in my way: Stop being a society leech, and start flowering it already. lol.

And sheesh. I'm so sorry about that comment...Doesn't she (most likely a she) know that you just had surgery? It takes a while for the body to repair itself!

  10. I love the idea of coming alive for the world. I try to live that way every day. [Try being the operative word.]

And I LOVE the vanilla sunrise cereal...almost to the point of obsession. The little quinoa puffs remind me of Kix :) I recently tried the maple version and it is just as yummy...tastes like fall (and toffee?)

Also just saw your Friday Feature over at HLB and had to comment that I don't like OIAJ either! [Although I love to eat ceral (and other things) out of empty, clean jars. ;)]

  11. Yes! Congratulations on the settlement. I hope that it went smoothly. I adore cereal, so I'm always eager to see some of your new reviews. Thank you for sharing, and I'm sorry if I've been a bit absent here...we are going through such a trial. Thank you for all your kind words.
