Here Comes the Bride

I had a fabulous afternoon.

Jen and I were invited to our friend, Sarah's bridal shower.  She is getting married on the weekend that we will be in Connecticut for the 1/2 marathon.  We were both bummed that we won't be able to make the wedding, but at least we could celebrate her bridal shower.

Before Sarah arrived, Jen and I broke open the bottle of wine.

As we sipped and talked, Jen confessed to me that she thinks of me as her "drinking friend" because the only time she ever is really able to enjoy a drink is when she is with me.  I took this as a huge compliment and will honor this role in her life. ;)

Shortly after we settled in, Sarah arrived to her surprise shower.

She was definitely surprised.

I've known Sarah since junior high and we became pretty close in high school.  When we left for college, we didn't talk very much, but recently reconnected last year.  Sarah is definitely one of those good friends that will remain close to my heart for life.  Her and I even ran our very first race together!

Lunch was served at the shower which was a nice spread of all kinds of yummy picnic foods.

I had a bit of everything.  Fruit and Veggies, Chips and Taco Dip, a taste of potato, macaroni and pasta salad and some pretzels and wheat thins.

For dessert, one of Sarah's bridesmaids made BEAUTIFUL cupcakes.  They were almost too pretty to eat.

I'm not the biggest fan of chocolate cake, but I did taste a bit of Jen's and it was quite tasty.  The cappuccino frosting was to die for.

We played the obligatory bridal shower games.

This one is my favorite.  We all have to answer questions about the bride, while her fiancée has already given his answers.  For every answer that didn't match, Sarah had to chew a piece of gum.

After the party, I came home and hung out with the boys.

Eventually, we knew if dinner was going to be on the grill like planned, we needed to get it going because rain threatened.

Good thing the rain held off because this dinner had to be made on the grill.

Grilled Salmon Pitas

Grilled Chicken Pita (for Toly)

I also put together some side salads and broccoli.

We LOVE this meal.  Grilled salmon in a warm chewy pita with hummus, tomato, feta, spinach and homemade cucumber sauce.

After dinner, we headed out to pick up a Red Box movie and some dessert.

This is the perfect size for someone like me who loves and has NO CONTROL with ice cream but ice cream doesn't necessarily love me back.

We are about to watch Edge of Darkness with Mel Gibson.  It got good reviews so I'm looking forward to it.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend everyone! :)

  8. Looks like such a fun time!! I just got caught up on your old posts and I loved the one on dieting...I just kind of sigh whenever anyone announces they're on a diet. The only "diet" that works is a healthy lifestyle :) Hope you've had a wonderful weekend!
