Back to School

Ah, it's that time of year.  I distinctly remember the feeling that came with going back to school.  I swear, you can feel it in the air.  Something in the universe just changes and once the big yellow busses appear on the streets in the early morning hours, you know that the long mindless days of summer have ended.

Bitter sweet I think illustrates this feeling perfectly.

Even though I have been out of school for 3 years, I still get those feelings.  I wonder if they will ever really go away?

Today, those feelings were particularly present, as I headed to one of our state schools for New Student Orientation to lead several workshops with college freshman.

Before that, I ate breakfast.

Peachy Overnight Oats with Raspberries

Overnight: 1/4 Cup Scottish Oats (ALL out and need to get more), 1/2 Container of Stoneyfield Peach Yogurt, Chia and Flax, 1/2 Mashed Banana
This Morning: 1/2 Peach, Raspberries, Vanilla Almond Granola, White Chocolate Wonderful PB

Complete and oh so good!

My good friend/co-worker and I met at the office and set out for campus.  Jess is actually an Alum of Shippensburg University, so she was more than excited to be visiting her alma mater.

We made a quick put stop into Cornerstone Coffee house for some iced coffee for the ride.

And couldn't resist a fresh baked raspberry bar.  I love that everything made at Cornerstone is made from fresh, wholesome ingredients.  This bar was literally bursting with sweet juicy whole raspberries in the most unbelievable flaky oat crust.

We took a few bites and decided to save the rest for later.

Once we arrived, Jess was bursting with excitement.  I think she was even more excited than the herds of anxious freshman who flooded the campus.  She found her old dorm hall and became pretty nostalgic.

The event was awesome and it felt so cool to be back at college, even for a day.  It brought back so many memories.

After we finished, we were all famished and more than ready to eat.

Jess led us to a local pub in town.

And her friend, Barbara joined us.

Bryce was more than satisfied to be making the blog for the second time this week.

For lunch, I ordered the Portobello Mushroom Salad that was okay.  Not the best salad I've eaten but I was starving so it worked.

Great day!

Newly purchased Ship U apparel.

I can never resist the college shirts.

After a long day at work, I changed for the third time today and went over to Jen's for girls night.

Naturally, there was wine.

Jen made a fantastic dinner for the two of us….

Salad and Corn Bread

Veggie Chili

And Cheesecake for dessert.

I'd say this was one pretty awesome Friday.

Tomorrow is another fun-filled day including a Father/Daughter Breakfast, trip to the farmers market, and date night!

I <3 the weekends!

  3. I have about 80 college sweatshirts. I didn't get to wear many of them the last 4 years since it would've been a bit awkward. Now I can bring them out again!

    I love raspberry oat bars!!

  4. Cheesecake for dessert is always a great way to end the week. I too love the way it feels when school starts up again. I just began graduate classes this week, so I actually got to experience returning. It sounds like you had a great day, and I hope you have an even better weekend!
