When Life Hands You Lemons

Hey guys! There is a valid reason as to why I didn’t compose a “real” post last night. Yesterday was awful! I thought I would spare you all from the despair of my dreadful day and wait until I was in a much better mood to start talking once again.

As I was leaving work yesterday, I realized that there were many reasons why I could just go home and feel sorry for myself. But then, something happened. On the drive home, I witnessed a homeless man walking along the side of the highway. His clothes were disheveled, his tiresome body was dragging in the heat, and he possessed a heartbreaking appearance of desolation.

After seeing this, it was remarkably clear to me that things could be worse, and I have it pretty darn good. Needless to say, my “bad mood” was lifted and I reminded myself that tomorrow will be better.

I then made a list of reasons why I have reason to be gloomy but then counteracted that list with more substansial reasons as to why I should be grateful.

Things that kind of STINK in my life at the moment:

1.There is something seriously wrong from my surgery last month. My mouth is still in so much pain, I am still swollen, and it’s causing a huge constraint on my life. The doctors will not help me and do not seem to care one bit and I am beginning to think that something sketchy is going on. It has been 6 weeks since I had the simple procedure of having my wisdom teeth out, and I’m still no where near healed from it!

2. Our air conditioner is broken once again! We believe we have a leak which is going to cost mucho dollars to fix.I feel really behind at work.

3. This week is pretty crazy and I’m starting to feel a little overwhelmed that I won’t be able to complete all of my tasks by the deadlines.

Things that are SPLENDID in my life at the moment:

1. I recently had a fantastic performance review at work and received a raise.

2. I completed 5 miles this morning in my fastest time ever (41:54)

3. Toly and I have such a great weekend to look forward to.

4. I just had my hair done which always makes me so much happier and put together. (Blondes really do have more fun! ;)

Okay so the lesson out of this all is simple…

“When Life Hands you Lemons, you Make Mojitos!” :)

When I got home yesterday, I had just another reason to smile. I have a new shredding partner! Toly confessed that he wants to start upping his workouts and work more on his abs. I told him to give Jillian a try and he hesitantly complied, but made fun of the idea all day asking if this was going to be a “chic” workout. Well, after 20 min of Jillian, the boy was red as a tomato, sweating buckets, and yelling profanities at the tv. Muhahahah serves him right! He also mentioned how sore he was this morning. All I could say, with a slight little smirk was “I told you so!”

Lunch was a beauty and worth sharing.

I had some leftover coconut tofu from last night’s dinner and incorporated it into a stunning summer salad. (Romaine, cucumber, purple cabbage, strawberries, grapefruit, avocado, and basil hummus) So delicious! Those cracker things would be TJ’s flax seed flats which I LOVE but sadly, when I bit into it, it was stale! So disappointing because I didn’t get any more on my last trip.

Dinner tonight was also marvelous!

On the menu: Salmon Burgers, Grilled Zucchini, Caesar Salad

The burgers are TJ’s frozen salmon patties that I grilled using my “secret” salmon sauce.

Ceasar Salad- Romaine, chukes, mushroms, olives, tomatoes and parm

We had these on toasted English muffins with cucumber sauce, spinach, red onion, pickles and avocado. We of course enjoyed our grilled dinner outdoors. (I think it’s actually cooler outside than it is inside our house!)

Well, I’m about to pop some more advil and call it a night. And if anyone else is having a less than perfect week out there, just remember

“Life isn’t always fair, but it’s still so good!”

Night Friends!

  2. Your splendid list is SO GOOD...way to go on the running! It can't make the stink list go away but you're totally right about focusing on the positive. Your hair looks so beautiful. I only wish I could pull of short hair!

I hope your week turns around!

  3. True true. Life is not fair. :( But once we accept that, it's easier to enjoy the "ups" in life.

I think you need to see a different doctor. Go get a 2nd opinion from a totally uninvolved party. There may very well be something going on. You need to find the right help!

  4. I'm sorry you are having some troubles :( I hope things get better soon, and good job looking at the positive too!

Haha. the first time Jason did the Shred with me he would only do part of the moves and not the whole thing, like arm raise, but no squat, and eventually he just kind of stood there and watched lol

  7. Oohhh Lauren I wish things would start looking up for you. But you're right, at the end of the day most of us are very fortunate. But still doesn't mean that our woes mean any less ;)
