Poster-Child For The Worst Recovery Patient

You probably won’t even believe it when I tell you this, but I am now dealing with ANOTHER mouth issue. Haha, seriously, if there is one more ill-effect of this surgery that could go wrong, it will for me.

Well, yesterday, I had another check-up for my dry sockets which I was hoping would be the last. I actually felt so much better and the swelling has decreased significantly. Other than some expected soreness in my jaw and a little discomfort chewing, I was feeling rather optimistic. That is until, I began to increasingly notice the swelling and numbness on the right side of my tongue was still apparent. I’d noticed it didn’t feel quite right before, but now that all of the swelling has gone down and my mouth is getting back to normal, I assumed that I would regain the feeling back in my tongue, but it seemed to be getting a little worse.

When I told the nurse about it, she said that it didn’t seem right and she went to get the doctor. After the poked around a bit, he believes that there may have been some nerve damage done during the surgery to the right side of my tongue. So, I was prescribed more drugs (steroids this time) and have to go back in 2 weeks so they can monitor this thing.

Wow guys, could I be any more ill-fated with my wisdom teeth? Simple little procedure right? Apparently not for me!!! :)

On the bright side, I feel a ton better and my face is practically back to normal. Even without the feeling of my tongue, I guess it could always be worse.

Anyways, I have been so busy at work lately. I have been trying to get caught up from being out but new things keep coming up that is keeping me from feeling totally settled. It’s such a busy time of year in our department and there is so much going on in and around the company that it is keeping me very productive. I do love it though!

After another busy day in the office, nothing relaxes me more than unwinding with a workout. Toly and I headed to the gym when I got home and did a quick 30 min strength routine.

20 min on bike
3 sets of chest press (40 lbs- 12 reps)
3 sets of shoulder press (40 lbs- 12 reps)
3 sets of leg extensions (60 lbs- 12, 11, 10 reps)
30 push-ups

I love this routine, it really works the whole body but I think I need to start increasing my weight. I’ve been doing the same lbs for awhile now, and I think it may be time to step it up another level.

Dinner this evening was nothing less than wonderful. On the menu:

Taco Salads

Filling:
Ground Turkey breast sautéed with cumin, chili powder, garlic, oregano.
Black Beans, Peppers, Zucchini, Diced Tomato

Salad:
Bed of Romaine
Taco filling (I gave Toly most of the meat and mine was mainly just the veggies)
Tortilla Chips (the last of my Food Should Taste Good Buffalo)
Cheese (For Toly)
Jalapenos
Avocado, Greek Yogurt and the last of my peach/mango salsa (note to self, GET MORE!)

These Tex-Mex salads were awesome! A bit spicy but for me, the spicier the better! That is where some nice sweet pineapple was delightful to cool down the mouth.

Okay, but the highlight of this dinner was this……

Do you know what that is? My very first bounty from the garden!!! Oh the joy, I am the proud parent of the glorious vegetable harvest from my backyard. Hopefully, this is just the start of a bountiful crop.

I’m off to settle in with my man for the night. Hope you are all having a wonderful week!

  1. Oh sweet girl, that just plain SUCKS! It's almost like a joke now, like for real?? Back when I was playing the flute professionally I was SO scared to get my wisdom teeth out (I never have, my dentist told me it was optional for me). People have told me that their lips will go numb for months, and same with the tongue - lol don't mess with that when you're a flute player.

Gosh, well I'm still going to be praying for ya! On the bright side, you really do look like your normal hot self again. :)

Hooray for taco salads. I love making them at home. Its fun to be able to alter the ingredients to what everyone wants!
