Getting Back to Reality

Thank goodness Toly and I both called off today. We knew that we would be having a long travel day yesterday, but we didn't anticipate how late it actually turned out to be when we got home.
Our first flight out of LA was at 8:50am, we arrived in Atlanta at 4pm (3 hour time difference) and then waited for our next flight into PA with a 4 hour layover. Blah! When we finally went to board our plane at 8:00pm, they told us that we would need to go to a different gate, so we got to that gate, and then had to turn around and change gates again. We finally got to the right gate and they explained that the plane wasn't even there yet so it was going to be more waiting. We finally got on the plane around 9ish and made the 1 hr and 45min flight into PA.

We waited to get off the plane, waited some more for our luggage, waited again for the shuttle to take us to our car and then FINALLY made it to the car to go home. By now we were both suffering from jet lag and exhaustion and just ready to get home. We opened the car and then...NOTHING! No lights, no engine starting, zippo! The battery had died due to sitting in the heat for many days. So, again we waited for someone from the airport to jump us so that we could make it home. Needless to say, it was around 1am when we walked in our door. What a long yucky travel day! :(

I set my alarm for 6am this morning, because I knew if I didn't I would be an absolute mess for the remainder of the week. It wasn't bad at all waking up and I ran a beautiful 6 miles and felt so great to actually move again after sitting and waiting all day yesterday.
I spent the entire day getting everything caught up...the grocery shopping, the laundry, emails, cleaning, ect. I was definitely dragging mid afternoon but I was ready to start cooking a nice meal once again. Eating out at all these wonderful restaurants was such a treat, but it does seem to make my body feel a little out of sorts, so I definitely crave good healthy food when I come back from vacay.

Since we got to enjoy one day of this PA heat wave, I thought that 90 degree temps deserves a meal on the grill. I was very excited to try another Trader Joe's buy...Organic Chicken Apple Chardonnay Sausage. These were so yummy! I ate mine salad style with grilled apples and asparagus, spring greens, cabbage, feta, and cucumber. At the store, I noticed corn was out for the season again, so being in the summery mood, I thought I would give it a try. This corn was actually pretty tasty. I like to grill the corn (throw it in the microwave for 2 min, wrap it in foil and throw on the grill). It was nice to have a home cooked meal and since I've stocked up for the week, we will be having many more over the next few days.

At least tomorrow is Wednesday already! Have a good night. :)

  2. Welcome home! I love TJ's chicken sausages - we just had the spicy jalapeno flavor the other night. I'll have to look for the apple chardonnay - sounds delicious!

  3. I'm glad y'all made it back safely! I loved reading your recap last night, made me want to jet out to California!

And grilled apples on your salad? Yum, sounds amazing! Yet another reason I "need" a grill. :)
