The Good Life

"When you're happy like a fool, let it take you over.
When everything is out, you've gotta take it in"
-One Republic, Good Life

What is on my playlist right now for running? This above One Republic song, Down by Jason Walker, I Run To You by Lady Antebellum, Run by Snow Patrol and Marry Me by Train.

I usually run to more upbeat, dance, or even hard core rap when I run, but lately, I've really been into the softer mellow feel.  It's so much more mediative and really helps me unwind after a long day.

Which is exactly what I did today.  But let's back up a bit.

I woke up early to see if the schools I was scheduled to be at were on a delay.  We got a few inches of snow overnight so I had a feeling I would be making some changes to my morning agenda.

I was right.

I was making phone calls and and getting things all sorted out before I realized I was running out of time for breakfast.

Waffle Friday would not be overlooked over a little snow.

2 Van's Multigran Waffles, Honey Chobani, Banana, Pom seeds, Pom Granola, Agave

Now if this isn't a way to start your Friday morning, I don't know what is.

So all of my appointments were cancelled and my day was a bit upset due to the snow and I spent the entire morning in the office trying to get things sorted out and rescheduled.  Ugh, if you think one school has it hard enough, think of trying to work with seven different schools who all have a different delay schedule.  It's a good thing I'm obsessively organized. I actually get excited by a messy challenge that I have to systemize.

When noon came around, I realized I had nothing packed or planned for lunch so I did the first thing that came to mind.  Call my most reliable coffee/juice cafe for one of my favorite salads.

Juice n' Java Greek Salad with Veggie Burger

The hummus and carrots were my addition.  Lately, I've been craving hummus and carrots so I keep them at work to snack on during the day.  But having a container of hummus in the work fridge is also quite handy for salad dressings.

I had some good news shared with me at work today pertaining to my job that I'm very excited about.  It's still in the works so I can't share yet but I can share the other exciting news I received.

My company appointed me the Chairman of the Cherry Blossom Race in DC this April to organize our team and serve as captain.  Since we've sponsored this race for so long, this year, we were allowed an additional 10 spots for employees to sign up.  Most people are doing the 5k run/walk but there are a few who singed up for the full 10 mile with me.  I get to organize the entire trip this year, order team shirts, and even serve as the coach.   Obviously I was elated.

When I got home, Toly and I needed to drop off my car to get serviced and as we were getting ready to leave, we ran into my parents coming home.  They had been in the Fingerlakes all week on vacation.  We asked them to join us for dinner while we waited for my car.

It was perfect actually, because we decided to go for Thai and needed a bottle of wine to bring.  They just happened to have some souvenirs from wine country.

My parents developed a newfound appreciation for this noble art.

"Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing."
Ernest Hemingway

I've inherited many things from my dad but I really enjoy the fact that he has inherited this hobby from me.  I'm glad to spread the wine wealth with others.

We went to our favorite Thai restaurant for a fantastic meal!

Thai Veggie Spring Roll

 Vegetable Curry with Steamed Tofu

 Pineapple Fried Rice

Shrimp Dumplings

 Pad Thai

I was in Thai heaven with this meal.  I think the key when going out for Thai or any other ethnic meal for that matter, is to go with lots of people, all get different dishes, and share.

So tomorrow, I am embarking on something I have never done.  In all my years of fitness adventures, I have never taken a spin class.  For some reason, they've always intimidated me.  I'm not really sure the reason for it, but it's true.  I'm not nearly as scared to sign up for a 1/2 marathon than I am to take a 60 min spin class.

Anyways, it's time I branch out.  I'm abiding by my mantra for 2011, Live Boldly!

Wish me luck! ;)

  10. Did you end up cutting your hair or do you just have it pulled back in the pic with your dad? Because that shorter kind of bob style looks amazing! If you haven't cut your hair yet, maybe you can do that because it really really suits you and your face shape. :)

Love Thai food! YUM! We had sushi last night.
