I Surrender!

I surrender!  I'm officially sick and I know it is entirely my fault.  You see, I use to have the immune system of a warrior.  I never got sick and I fully blamed this on the fact that my diet and lifestyle were very healthy.  I'm a firm believer that if you take care of your body, your body will take care of you in return.

Well that is a great theory and I still do believe it, but there are some instances where as healthy as you may be, you just have no control over.  When I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis last year, I started a pretty potent treatment that I've been on ever since.  One of the side effects of this treatment is it lowers your body's ability to fight sickness and infection and lowers your immune system.  So basically, any opportunity I give myself for an illness to enter, it will.  Thursday's Turkey Trot = perfect opportunity! So now, I'm reaping the effects with a sore throat, cough, runny nose, slight fever and just feeling plain lousy.

Even though I may not be able to keep sickness away as easily anymore, I can still do everything in my power to make sure it doesn't stick around too long.  Tons of fluids and rest is my remedy and that is just what I've been doing.

Thankfully, my appetite usually isn't effected when I get sick.  If anything, it's usually more noticeable.  I made myself a big bowl of warm and comforting oatmeal for breakfast yesterday.

Whipped Banana Oats with Berries, Vanilla Greek Yogurt, Vanilla Almond Granola

My mom has already taken down the fall decor and has put up everything Christmas.  There is even Christmas soap in all of the bathrooms.  Oh, it's begun!

The only thing I wanted all day was warm liquids to sooth my throat, so for lunch, I decided to whip of a batch of Butternut Squash and Apple soup using the leftover veggies from Thanksgiving.

It actually turned out pretty tasty. I definitely like a little texture in my soup and this came out perfect.

Last night, Toly and I actually had the house to ourselves for the first time since we've moved in.  We have not had a night like this in months so we decided to make it a special one.  We opened a bottle of wine and made dinner together, just like old times.

Dinner was excellent!  We made Shrimp Scampi and Garlic Parmesan Tilapia on Roasted Garlic and Basil Linguini with a lemon butter sauce.

Also, roasted tomato and feta Bruschetta. (Toly's favorite)

All together, a wonderful meal eaten with the sounds of Christmas music and the freshly lit tree in the background.

We ended the night with a move and bowls of Chocolate Hazelnut Gelatto.  Couldn't get much better than that!

Well it got a little better for me when I chugged some Tylenol to knock me out until 8am this morning.

Today, I have nothing on the agenda expect for more rest.  Hopefully tomorrow, I'll be back to normal.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

  2. I'm so sorry you're sick! Ulcerative Colitis does not sound like very much fun - I have horrible digestive issues, and I've actually never seen a doctor for them, but I'm thinking it's time... horrible stomachaches all the time.

I'm so glad Toly and you got to have a nice evening by yourselves - although, I'm kind of jealous you're spending Christmas at home with your parents this year... I'm going through some mad withdrawals right now. :)
