Sweet You Rock and Sweet You Roll

Scorcher out today!  We are currently experiencing a major heat wave and it's only going to get worse.  I know the heat is pretty much everyones worst nightmare, but I will take a heatwave over a snow storm any day!

I had 6 miles on tap this morning and finished in around 53 min.  Still averaging that 8:30 pace but I do notice that my speed is a bit slower when I run on the treadmill.  I guess this is because I am manually controlling it rather than just running on how I feel.  This is why treadmills are not the best for doing speedwork but regardless, it gets the job done!

I only wanted something cold for breakfast….

Overnight Oats came to the rescue!

Chocolate Covered Raspberry Overnight Oats

Last Night: 1/2 Cup Oats
                            Raspberry Chobani
             1/2 banana
            1 tsp Chia
            1 tsp flax
                    Morning:  Raspberries and Blueberries
                       Pecans and Coconut
                                Dark Chocolate AB drizzle
             Raspberry Jam

With ice cold coffee and sweet juicy grapefruit and berries

I adore overnight oats in the summer.

I spent the morning driving.  I had a presentation in a location that was about 45 min away and with the commute ahead and I came prepared with some good road tunes.

For the past few days, I've been craving some Dave.  You see, I was a HUGE DMB fan in my younger years and although I still enjoy his music (mainly his original work) I seem to go through phases where I really crave his music.  I just found out that he will be in Hershey on Friday night which kind of explains where this desire is coming from.  I seem to get very nostalgic when Dave comes to town.

Anyways, the windows down, Crash was blaring, and I was loving the drive.

After my presentation, I came home to make a fast but filling lunch.

The Fresh Vegetable Soup I made this past weekend

Salad with all kinds of goodness

With a slice of some of the best bread I have purchased in a long time.  This was Wegmans Spinach and Parmesan bread and I highly recommend.  I'm not even a big bread person unless its full of flavor and this definitely delivered!

When I got back to work, I discovered that our AC unit was broken.  Ugh, not a happy workplace!  They eventually got it to work partially which kept people from attacking one another but it was still very miserable.

I got home and thought about forgoing the gym, but I knew I would regret it so I got changed and told myself I would give it 30 min.

1.5 mile on treadmill 1% incline (warm up)
3 sets of 12 overhead press, 40 lbs
3 sets of 12 bench press, 40 lbs
3 sets of 12 lat pulldowns, 40 lbs
5 min bike (cool down)

Exactly 30 min and I was out!

I did walk Sammy but both him and I could barely make the loop around the block.  I think my pupils were burning it was so hot.

The thought of eating something hot and heavy was just not appealing as you can imagine.

I remembered about this recipe I have been wanting to make for some time now and decided tonight was a great night to try it out.

Cold Sesame Noodle Salad

Rice Noodles
Carrot Sticks
Mango
Shredded Cabbage
Broccoli Slaw
Edamame
Peanuts
Sesame Soy Vinaigrette

I also grilled shrimp and pineapple teriyaki skewers to go along with the salad.  Grilled asparagus made it on there too!

This was just what I had in mind, light, refreshing, and flavorful.

I'm off to see if I can score some DMB tickets.  I hear this is his last year touring so now I really want to see him one last time!

Until tomorrow!

What bands/artists were you into in high school?  For me, I was all about DMB, Phish, Dispatch, OAR, and Sublime.  Haha, totally into that scene during my adolescent years.

  2. I used to love Dave Matthews as well! And like you, I still randomly get the urge to listen to some of my old CDs.

I have a great memory from when I was in college at LVC. DMB came to Hershey but we were too poor for tickets, so my friends and I just camped outside the park and listened to the concert. It was a fun night!

  7. I need to find this Raspberry Chobani! I haven't seen it here.

I love DMB. I could NEVER get tickets in high school - the concerts sold out super fast - but I fianlly got to see them 2 years ago when they came and played a free concert in memorial of the VT shootings. I love that they did that, and they were amazing live.

If you don't have their newest cd, get it! It's great.

  8. Such great salads you have going! I loved seeing the blackberries...what a wonderful summer addition. It has been nice and cool in Colorado (only 70 degrees today) so I will try to send some cool vibes your way!

  9. Wow that is quite a fibrous lunch! Great for the digestion tract! ;-)

And I hope your AC works now...it's crazy hot right now, and I think I could get heat stroke if there were no AC!

I have never been much into bands, but for a short while, I did get a bit interested in Westlife and A1 because all my friends were crazy about them!
