Hi guys!

I'm here, still recovering and following doctor's orders, which basically include sitting on my butt, loading up on drugs, and eating like a 12 year old again.  It's quite fabulous actually.

I am happy to report that doctor's orders are definitely working!!!  I am feeling so much better.  The past weekend, I kept myself planted on the couch while my amazing hubby waited on me hand and foot.  He did the cleaning, the cooking and made sure my water was refilled every chance he got.  What a sweetheart!  Funny story about the water real quick….

When I was in the hospital, they gave me a HUGE water bottle filled with ice water.  This bottle never went empty and was always filled with ice cold water.  When we got home, I told Toly I thought this water bottle was like magic because the ice never melted and it was always full.  He laughed and said "No hunny, the nurses kept refilling it every few hours."  Haha, I seriously had no idea!!! I really thought it was some kind of crazy insulated water jug.  Guess that's what 3 days of being slightly unconscious on drugs can do to you!

Anyways, on top of having a wonderful husband, I also have the best family and friends.  My house is filled with flowers and cards and FOOD!!!  No cooking for this girl and I can't say that I have any problems with that.  My dad researched a low residue diet and spent all weekend cooking meals that I was able to eat.  My fridge is now overflowing with meals for the week/s.

Light Mac and Cheese

Lasagna for Toly

Rice Soup for me

He dropped off everything last night and stayed for dinner.

What a guy!  My dad is truly the best.  Although our Trader Joe's trip got postponed this weekend, we totally plan on making this up as soon as we possibly can.

Each day, my stomach gets a little better.  It's best described right now as one big open sore, and anything I put into it that would irritate it obviously doesn't digest well.  Which is why my daily eats are quite different and pretty plain and basic.

I'd thought I'd show you a little glimpse of this new diet I have to follow…..

It's starts with a morning dose of drugs…..

Then, I usually have to eat something within 30 min of waking up or else I start to get really nauseous.

This combo for breakfast has worked liked a charm for the past few days…

Cheerios with Almond Milk, Plain English Muffin with Earth Balance

The other thing I've been eating quite often is Toast and Cottage Cheese, something that has ALWAYS been a childhood favorite of mine.  I seem to always revert to this snack whenever I am sick or just feeling nostalgic. My grandma use to make it for my sister and I for as long as I can remember and I have loved it ever since.

Lunch today….

White Toast with Cottage Cheese, Soup and Canned Peaches

As you can see, this is diet is pretty unusual for me and definitely lacks nutritional value.  However, at this point, I am not supposed to be very concerned about getting all my veggies, but rather healing my tummy.  It's only for a few weeks and I can already tell it's working!!  These foods actually don't make me feel like something is tearing apart my insides after I eat them, so I know it's helping.  I'll be back to my normal eating and lifestyle in no time, but for now, I'm living up the life of a picky adolescent eater.  Toly assures me it's totally normal eating but I think he is just more excited about how empty our veggie drawer is right now and how it is now replaced with foods like mac and cheese, Eggo waffles, vanilla pudding and white bread.  Hey, enjoy it while it lasts, right? :)

I hope to be back to work later this week but I certainly don't want to push myself.  If I keep feeling better, as I have been, I'd say by Wednesday I should be back on track.  We'll see though.

Well, you guys are amazing and I can't speak enough thanks for all of your comments and emails over the past few days.  Every single one makes me tear with joy because I realize how many wonderful friends that I have and how many loving people there are in this world.  You are all utterly the best! :)

I'll be in touch over the next fews days.

<3 you all!

  1. I commend you for having such a GREAT attitude. If I had to take all those pills with my brekkie, no one would want to be around me- they're my phobia.

Get better, and enjoy that toast and cottage cheese while ya do!

  2. I'm glad you're feeling better!!!!!!!!! Your family and Toly sound out of this world amazing. Your dad is so cute for cooking up all that goodness for you (especially the Mac N Cheese). Keep resting and drinking that magic cup of water ;)

I love the water story too! hehe

  5. hahah that is too bad the bottle wasn't some super awesome bottle that never let the ice melt! great story :) i love nostalgic meals for when i am feeling ill. sounds like you are getting well taken care of by those who love you, but if you need anything just holler! i am just a click away :) xoxo

  6. So glad you are feeling a bit better! I say definitely enjoy eating the out of the ordinary adolescent foods! Your daddy is so sweet and that mac and cheese looks delish!! I hope your tummy keeps healing quickly!

  7. Hi Lauren!

I only recently started following your blog, but I caught the main event of your hospital stay and now your recovery - I'm so sorry you are going through all of this! How stressful.

I recently visited a naturopath for some stomach issues (very similar to yours) plus a range of other symptoms that I was having, and I was put on a candida cleanse diet. Interestingly, it is almost completely opposite what yours is! No wheat/gluten, dairy, sugar, etc - the "no white diet". Funny!

Anyway, based on what I have seen on your blog so far I know this is not what you usually eat, but it sounds like you are really taking it all in stride, and I think that kind of attitude will take you leaps and bounds in your recovery :)

    All the best!

  8. Hope you keep feeling better! The no residue diet sounds like a childhood dream actually, so enjoy being a kid for a few days!! Keep up the positive attitude love, you're an inspiration!

  9. That is so sweet that your dad prepared meals for you. I am also glad you are feeling better. One day at a time and you will be back to normal soon :)

  10. Keep taking it easy and focusing on your recovery. Praying for you!

  11. Glad you're feeling better!! I hope this trend continues! Hahah to the magic water jug! Toast and cottage cheese? You know I'm all over that!

Get some R&R, TLC, and all of those other abbreviations ;) BB, The Brat, and I are sending you lots of get well vibes!

  12. Glad you are feeling better! Take care!
